In Warner, NH, there's a two-day fair in early October called the Fall Foliage Festival. The citizens of Warner have been putting this festival together for more than 60 years, and the money raised from it has funded quite a few worth-while projects over the decades. And of course, on Sunday, there is a parade. Bands, firetrucks, oxen, old cars, hod rods, and yes, floats. About 6 or 7 years ago, a group of friends in their twenties began building a float...really more of a costume-and-character extravaganza with a cast of dozens and accompanied by motorized vehicles of various flavors. Two years ago, they decided to call it quits. Too far for many to travel, too tough to all get together as their lives got busier. But this year Jesse McNeil, the guy whose mom's house has served as the repository for the flesh and bones of past floats, put out the call. Let's get the float-band back together. And they did. And as usual, they won first prize. This is Part I, the Night of the Builders. For more: http://curiouslylocal.com
